Waxing at home.
Getting rid of excess body hair has occupied women’s minds throughout the ages. There are centuries-old evidence of depilation methods in the ancient world, while modern technology offers various efficient ways of getting rid of excess hair quickly and easily.
The simplest and most painless way is depilation - shaving or removing hairs with the help of special creams without pulling out the hair bulb, however, this method has its downside - the hairs grow back quickly and, when shaved often, they become rough and hard.
A more effective way of hair removal is epilation - the destruction of body hair by acting on the dermis part of the hair, eliminating the hair bulb. This method includes epilation with a mechanical epilator, waxing, photoepilation and laser epilation.
In this article we will focus on waxing in more detail - the removal of hairs by pulling them out with the help of wax. In waxing we use liquid, solid or sugar wax. Waxing with sugar wax or sugar paste (also called sugaring) includes a special technology that is suitable even for sensitive and allergic skin. It is a less painful waxing method that reduces the problem of ingrown hairs. In addition, sugar wax is a completely natural product that does not irritate the skin.
The most popular waxing methods are waxing with liquid wax (with paper strips) and waxing with hard or film wax, which does not require paper strips. Generally, liquid wax is used for large areas of the body (legs, arms), while hard or film wax is suitable for sensitive areas of the body (face, armpits and bikini area). This method is more painful than shaving or removing hairs with the help of special cosmetics, but the effect is quite long-lasting (hairs grow back after 4 weeks on average).
Waxing weakens the hair follicle, so the hair grows back weaker. When waxing is performed regularly, the hairs grow back less often and more fragile, so the waxing process also becomes faster and less painful.
The easiest way to smooth skin without excess hair is to entrust waxing to a beauty care specialist and perform this procedure in a salon, but if you have decided to do waxing at home, you should consider the following aspects:
1. Large areas of skin (arms and legs) will be more convenient and easier to wax with wax capsules placed in a special wax capsule heater. The wax capsule roller will allow you to quickly and easily apply the warmed wax along the entire length of your arm or leg.
2. You can use a water bath to heat the film wax (heat the wax in a pot with water), but this type of heating is quite inconvenient and time-consuming, so a wax heater designed for wax cans (400ml or 800ml, depending on the required wax) is often purchased for waxing at home volume).
How to use wax and wax heater:
Turn on the wax heater and insert the wax can or wax capsule if you are working with a capsule heater.
Wait 20-30 minutes, then make sure that the wax has melted and reached a uniform consistency.
Treat the skin area to be waxed with a pre-waxing product (this will remove excess oil and dirt from the skin).
Apply the wax in the direction of hair growth.
Place the paper strip over the wax and smooth it with your hand, pressing firmly.
Hold the skin taut and tear off the paper strip with a quick hand movement against the direction of hair growth.
If you wax with hard or film wax, paper strips are not necessary. As the wax cools, it hardens and forms a firm film, which must be torn against the direction of hair growth, similar to a strip of paper.
Treat all necessary skin areas in this way.
When waxing is complete, remove any remaining wax with a suitable post-waxing product (oil, lotion, foam, emulsion, etc.).
After the treatment, you may experience some redness on the skin, which is a normal reaction to the removal of the hair bulb and is temporary.
Recommendations for waxing:
- Waxing should not be performed on the same day as chemical peeling, sauna or solarium.
- Waxing is not recommended if there are wounds, abrasions or burns on the skin.
- In case of varicose veins, it is recommended to use wax at a low temperature
- It is not recommended to put the wax on skin formations (warts, growths, etc.).
- Unwanted hair growth can be avoided by deep peeling a few days after waxing or by using special lotions designed to prevent hair growth.
